OPENCUBE ADDS DCP MASTERING FEATURES TO ITS OPENCUBE HD VIDEO/IT SERVER

OpenCubeHD v2.2 server will act as a gateway for post-production & D-Cinema theatres

TOULOUSE, France - February 25th, 2009. OpenCube Technologies, a company specialized in MXF file-based exchanges, has adapted its solution to meet D-Cinema requirements. The OpenCubeHD solution, widely used by the post-production industry as a DDR server with HD in/output, now offers the tools needed to create DCI-compliant DCPs (Digital Cinema Packages). These new features make it one of the most powerful gateways between digital film laboratories and D-Cinema theatres in the market.

OpenCubeHD v2.2's new DCP capabilities allow users to control each step of the digital master creation process before files are sent to D-Cinema theatres. Starting from a non-compressed 2K/4K file format pictures suite (TIFF, RAW, DPX, TGA), the video/IT server is able to convert RGB/YUV color to X'Y'Z'.  Standardized Look-Up Tables (LUT) can be downloaded to optimize the process. Pictures are then encoded into Jpeg2K format according to the recommended DCI debit adjustment, and data  encrypted to ensure that the media is secure before the content is delivered. The media are wrapped in MXF file format as part of the last step in the process.

A complete DCP is created with the Composition Play List (CPL) and the Packaging Play List (PKL), which guarantee the synchronization of picture, sound and sub-title files. A software tool generates KDM, an encryption key used to pair off DCP with customers' D-Cinema servers and ensure safe media delivery.

In addition, the OpenCubeHD server offers an intuitive and efficient GUI with a Timeline that enables users to prepare media before DCP creation. This makes the server a powerful workstation for media management, content editing, audio/video essence input, on existing basis and other tasks. All of these groundbreaking features are fully adapted to digital laboratory requirements. Before delivery, DCP can be checked by content browsing as you would with a VTR. Another advantage of the DCP Mastering solution is its encoding performance, which borders on real time with 24 pictures per second in 2K format.

OpenCube has drawn on its recognized expertise and experience in MXF implementation to create DCPs that comply with the standards of all the major equipment manufacturers. Interoperability compliancy has been tested to ensure hassle-free and ready-to-use content delivery, whatever the D-Cinema player.

"Many of our customers' post-production laboratories were quick to see the value of the solution and have found that the DCP Mastering option has appreciably enhanced their OpenCubeHD capacity. The company has also acquired a significant number of new customers who have invested in the OpenCube server to simplify and speed up their digital masters creation processes," says Benoît Février, OpenCube CEO.
